How Many Fence Posts Do I Need?
Posts are the vertical supports set in concrete. Standard spacing:
- 6-8 feet apart — standard for most wood fences

How to Calculate Pickets
For picket fences with spacing between boards:
Standard pickets are typically 3.5" wide (1×4 nominal) with 2-3" gaps between them.
Concrete for Posts
Each post hole needs concrete. General guidelines:
- 4 ft fence — 1-2 bags (80 lb) per post
- 6 ft fence — 2 bags (80 lb) per post
- 8 ft fence — 2-3 bags (80 lb) per post
- Hole diameter: 3× post width (e.g., 12" hole for 4×4 post)
- Hole depth: ⅓ to ½ of above-ground height
