Cat Age Calculator: Cat Years to Human Years

Just like dogs, cats age on a curve rather than a simple one-to-one ratio. A one-year-old cat is already a teenager in human years, while a 15-year-old cat is a senior. This calculator converts your cat's age to the human equivalent and tells you its life stage.

The Cat Age Formula

The general veterinary guideline for feline aging is:

First year = 15 human years
Second year = 9 more human years
Each year after = +4 human years

So a 2-year-old cat is about 24 human years old, and every year after that adds roughly 4 more.

Cat Life Stages

  • Kitten โ€” under 1 year
  • Junior โ€” 1 to 2 years
  • Prime (adult) โ€” 3 to 6 years
  • Mature โ€” 7 to 10 years
  • Senior โ€” 11 to 14 years
  • Geriatric โ€” 15 years and older

Example Calculation

  • A 5-year-old cat: 24 + (3 x 4) = about 36 human years (prime adult)
  • A 13-year-old cat: 24 + (11 x 4) = about 68 human years (senior)
