How to Calculate Your Daily Water Target

A good starting point is to calculate water needs based on body weight, then adjust for activity and environmental factors:

One of the simplest ways to check your hydration status is to look at your urine color:

For healthy people with normal kidney function, drinking too much water is rarely a problem โ€” the kidneys can excrete up to about 1 liter per hour. Symptoms of overhydration include nausea, headache, confusion, and in severe cases, seizures. The "golden rule" โ€” drink when you are thirsty โ€” is generally a safe guide.
